Cervical Screening

This page explains what cervical screening is, why it’s offered, and how it helps prevent cervical cancer. It also outlines who is invited, how often, and how to book an appointment.

Your Choice

It’s your choice whether to have a cervical screening test. This information is here to help you make an informed decision.

Why does the NHS offer cervical screening?

Cervical screening helps prevent cervical cancer and saves up to 5,000 lives each year in the UK.

When will I be invited?

You’ll be invited for screening if you’re aged 25 to 64, as most cervical cancers develop within this age group. Invitations are sent:

  • Every 3 years for those aged 25 to 49
  • Every 5 years for those aged 50 to 64

Our Practice Nurses are here to support you with any questions or concerns. Please contact reception or use our online services to book an appointment.
