When to use 111

Call 111 or use NHS 111 Online if:

• You need urgent medical help but it’s not life-threatening
• Your GP surgery is closed and you need advice
• You’re unsure which service you need

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 Online or call 111.

‍NHS 111 Online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

When to call 999

Call 999 in a life-threatening emergency, including:

• Major accidents or serious trauma
• Severe breathlessness
• Heavy or uncontrollable bleeding
• Loss of consciousness
• Suspected heart attack or stroke

If you need help in a life-threatening emergency call 999 immediately.
